It was in 1985 when Gerhard Gutzler took charge of the vineyard. And he took his new responsibility and managerial freedom right away. He focused the traditional family business on the production of high quality vines, vines which reflect the typical character of the grape and the composition of the soil.
His son Michael joined him after en education as winemaker and several working- experiences at renowned vineyards. Together they succeeded so well, that the vineyard became member of the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter = Association of German Quality and Prädikat Wine Estates) in 2006.
The mutual passion for vine, the family spirit and the interexchange of the generations are fundamental for their work. For them the balance of traditional handicraft and new findings is the crucial point to produce an exceptional and elegant vine.
To achieve this objective requires an intense fostering of the vine in the vineyard. The foliage is trimmed and the grapes are cut to reduce the crop. Depending on the grape the fermentation is done in a stainless steel container or in a wooden barrel where the vine is kept until it is bottled.
